10 elements a great website must include…Part 2

6. Check Spelling.
Again this may seem like an obvious point but it is vital you get a second pair of eyes to read over copy and check it reads well and is spelt correctly. Spelling mistakes give bad first impressions of a company so simply take care check, recheck and recheck again.

7. Quick download is crucial.
Users will not be prepared to wait 2 minutes for your site to download. Although their attention span may be longer than 5 seconds, it’s unlikely that it will be as much as 30 seconds. So when building your site make sure images are optimised, video is compressed, code is clean and unnecessary elements of functionality aren’t included.

8. Offer free downloadable content.
In the form of PDF’s. If the user wants to learn more then this is the best way. PDF’s are also very useful for SEO as Google can read the words in the PDF in a similar way to the words in the HTML. Offering free downloadable content is also a great CTA if you would like a more unique cta than simply “Call now”. Additionally this also gives users a great reason to visit the site.

9. Embrace social media.
Social media namely Facebook and Twitter are great free tools to publicise your website to the mass market and can act as the first resource for breaking news. Old fashioned companies seem to be wary of these benefits but by setting up a Facebook group and synchronising it with a Twitter feed you can reach a whole host of users which would previously have remained hidden.

10. Include a Favicon

By not including a favicon you are producing an unfinished and unprofessional site. There are certain elements users now expect to be included and this is one of those!
